School Days (Go Camels!)

Teresa and Anna started school on January 5th at the American Academy for Girls. There are many English-speaking schools here in Dubai with either a British or American curriculum. I found AAG's website several months ago and Brian toured the school shortly after he arrived here. The facilities are very nice and it also happens to be very close to where we were assigned a villa.

Some fun facts about school here are that they wear uniforms and attend class Sunday through Thursday. The kids here start school at age 4, so Anna is in what they call K2, or second year kindergarten. The "bus" picks them up right in front of our house. The "nanny" on board rings our bell and then helps them to get seated and buckled in.

The curriculum is similar to the States, and they also have a daily Arabic lesson. Teresa, in second grade, takes basic French twice weekly as well. In P.E. they have 6-week units of dance, gymnastics, sports and games, and swimming. The 1st thru 12th graders are divided into one of three houses - the Falcons, the Arabian Horses, and the Camels. (No, they don't use a sorting hat like in Harry Potter, but Anna was hoping they did!)

Boarding the bus

...and they're off to school. Teresa says the bus driver drives too fast. I believe her because everyone drives too fast in Dubai!
